What's New in BetTrader 4.3

Released June 23rd 2008

================

Memory Usage Enhancements

We have continued fine tuning BetTrader's performance and memory usage and version 4.3 now uses 50% of the memory required by version 4.2 and only 25% of the memory required by version 4.0.

====================

Faster Refresh Rate

When we released version 4.2 in May, in response to Betfair's new data usage charges, we imposed a 200 millisecond delay on all API calls to make sure that users couldn't get more than 20 refreshes per second. This was done to guarantee that nobody would incur any data usage charges by going over the threshold of 20 refreshes per second. Now that users are more familiar with the data usage charging scheme it is apparent that many people who don't have super fast internet connections, or who pay enough in commission to offset the data usage charges, can safely remove the 200 millisecond delay. Removing this delay will cause a pop up message to appear warning the user that it is possible that they might incur data usage charges, it is up to you to make sure that you won't be charged by Betfair if you choose to remove the 200 ms delay.

======================

Improved Hedge Functionality

The user now has the option to choose how the hedge button calculates the amount to hedge. The hedge button's default setting takes the current Last Traded Price (LTP) and uses that to calculate and then place the resulting lay or back bet. The user can now change that to use the price that is available immediately to make sure that the hedge bet is matched straight away. You can make this change in File>Settings.

===================================

Non Runners

When a non runner is withdrawn from a horse race, BetTrader now closes that market and then reopens it and displays a message about the runners being removed.

===================================

Profit/Loss Displays Pence and Currency Symbol

Currency symbol and pence amounts are now displayed in the profit or loss amount on both the grid and ladder interfaces.

======================================

Hour Adjust has Increased Range

Some overseas users have found that race times on BetTrader are showing several hours earlier than they should so the Hour Adjust now has -12 to +12 to manually synchronise BetTrader with their local time.

======================================

Bug Fix

Matched and Unmatched bets now show correct times in Bet info, they were showing 12 hours out in afternoons.

===================

Bug Fix

In the navigation tree in the All tab, single clicking on a sport no longer opens an unwanted market within that sport category.

================

What's New in BetTrader 4.2

BetTrader 4.2 has been released in response to Betfair's new Data Request Charges that recently came into effect. This new version of BetTrader also has some bug fixes, the full list of upgrades is listed below:

May 2008

================

Data Request Charges

Betfair's Data Request Charges are incurred by users who are receiving more than 20 refreshes a second. Therefore we have limited the data that BetTrader requests meaning that everyone should be receiving slightly less than 20 refreshes per second, as displayed in the top left info panel.

If you are still getting readings of more than 20 refreshes per second then go to File>Settings and move the Refresh Delay slider up to around 300 milliseconds and that should keep you below the charging threshold of 20 refreshes per second.

If you click on the Ref / Sec or Max Ref / Sec panels that will take you to Betfair's Data Request Charges page that explains exactly how charges are made.

====================

Grid to Ladder Freeze Fixed

Some users were experiencing freezes when they switched from the Grid interface to the Ladder interface which has now been fixed.

===============

Summer Time Issue

Some users were finding that the race times on BetTrader were showing 1 hour early. If your race times on BetTrader are wrong then go to File > Settings and set the Hour Adjust to 1 and then restart BetTrader and the race times will then display correctly and the countdown clock will then work properly.

======================

Improved Hedge Functionality

The Hedge button formulae have been improved so that repeated clicking on the Hedge button on several different horses will give correct results no matter what your open position was on any horse.

===================================

Improved Matched Bets Display in Grid & Ladder

Stake amounts of Matched Bets are now right aligned & padded out to pence in both Grid and Ladder.

======================================

Clicking on Selection Name Replaces Previous Graph

Clicking repeatedly on the name of a horse or team made the price history graph pop up appear each time, leaving the user with several graphs open at the same time. Now each click on the horse's name makes the graph replace the previous one.

===================

Matched & Unmatched Bets

Unchecked the "Bet Info" by default.

================

US Horse Long Names

Did a little re-layout of the Grid interface so that long horse names don't chop off anymore.

Live Hedged Profit/Loss Position

Hedged Profit/Loss Figure
This displays your current profit or loss as it stands if you were to liquidate at the current market price and then Hedge your position to ensure an even result.
To realise this figure, simply click on the Hedged Profit/Loss figure and BetTrader will submit the exact amount to liquidate your position and give you an even result regardless of which horse/team wins.
In the above example I have Backed £280.80 on Magic Echo and the Hedge P/L Figure is showing that I will have a £8.68 guaranteed profit whichever horse wins if I click on it to liquidate at the current market price, which will be acheived by BetTrader Laying £289.50 as shown beneath the H button.
Whatever your position is, you can now get out safely with a single click of the mouse.

  Weight Of Money Indicator

Weight of Money Indicator

A lot of people have been asking for this so here it is. This indicator shows the weight of money that is wanting to Lay and Back a certain horse and displays the difference between them as a percentage figure.

For instance, if there is exactly the same amount of money on the Lay side as there is on the Back side then the Weight of Money indicator will be 0%.

If there is 50% more money wanting to Lay than wants to Back then the figure will display as +50% because this indicates upward pressure on the price from there being more Layers.

If there is 50% more money wanting to Back than Lay then it will display as -50% because more Backers than Layers indicates downward pressure on the price.

This WoM figure is constantly updating from the current live prices being offered. The WoM figure is also displayed as a line graph beneath the ladder and in the bet pop up box.

OCO - Order Cancels Order Tool

Order Cancels Order Tool
This is used to connect 2 or more tool orders or unmatched bets so that when one of the unmatched bets/tool orders is matched then the other unmatched bet/tool order is cancelled.

This can be used in a variety of circumstances, for instance, if you have Layed 100 @ 4.3 and you want to either Back 100 @ 5.0 to take your profit or Back 100 @ 4.0 On Stop to take a loss.

By connecting the 2 Back orders with the OCO tool then when either one of these Back orders is matched it will automatically cancel the other Back order

Fill or Kill Tool

Fill Or Kill Tool
This tool allows the user to set the amount of time that an unmatched bet remains as an unmatched bet before it is cancelled.

For instance, if you set the Fill or Kill tool to 1 second then you can fire orders into the market that will be cancelled unless they are matched within 1 second of being submitted.

If you set the tool to 10 seconds, then an unmatched bet will stay for 10 seconds before being automatically cancelled.

If Matched Tool
This is another tool which connects 2 or more Tool orders or Unmatched Bet.

With this tool you can add a bet or tool order onto an existing unmatched bet or tool order with the condition that the second order will only be activated if the first one is Matched.

For instance, you might want to set a Stop Loss tool but only if your current unmatched bet is matched.

Tick Offset Tool

Tick Offset Tool
This tool allows you to enter the number of ticks profit you would like from your trades and then have the tool automatically submit your countertrades for you as soon as you are matched.

For instance, if you set the tool to Back 1 tick Higher/Lay 1 tick Lower and you submit Lay 100 @ 1.75 then as soon as you are matched the tool will instantly submit Back 100 @ 1.76, which is 1 tick higher.

Submit Bets Below Betfair Minimum Bet Size

Submit Bets Below £2

Due to popular demand we enabled the new version of BetTrader to be able to place bets below Betfair’s £2 minimum bet size.

This is especially useful for people that are beginning and want to be able to experiment with smaller amounts before taking the plunge. Now you can place any size bet you want.

Hedge Bets Below £2

Hedge Button Below £2

Another big request was to allow the Hedge button to be able to hedge amounts below Betfair’s minimum 2 pound bet size.

As it was, the Hedge button could only work if the amount to be hedged was above £2, otherwise the budding new trader couldn’t hedge his profits.

The new version of BetTrader can now hedge any amount below or above £2.

Improved Bet Submission on Grid Interface

Up/Down Arrows Appear Beneath Mouse Hand
To make bet submission even quicker and more accurate we made a slight change to the position of the bet pop up box when you click on a price in the Grid Interface.

Now when you click in a Price box on the Grid, the bet pop up box appears with one of the Up/Down Price arrows directly beneath the mouse hand, allowing you to change the price without needing to move the mouse hand at all.

When you press a Lay box you’ll probably want to submit your bet at the price you clicked on or lower, so the Bet Pop Up Box appears with the Price-Down arrow directly beneath your mouse hand.

When Backing you’ll want to either submit your bet at the price you clicked on or higher so the Bet Pop Up Box appears with the Price-Up arrow directly beneath your mouse hand. When you are happy with the price you can submit the bet by hitting the Enter key, meaning that you can now submit bets on the Grid Interface without ever needing to move the mouse hand or take your eyes from the price.

We have also made it possible to change your selected Stake Button in the Bet Pop Up Box with Hotkeys. The number 0 selects the NET Stake Button and the numbers 1 to 6 select the other Stake Buttons.

Audible Alarm on Countdown Clock

Audible Alarm on Countdown Clock

Trading in the final minutes can get pretty hectic and if you're engrossed in watching a price and don't notice that the race is about to start, you could find yourself holding a bet that you don't want.

If that happens to you a bit too often then try setting the new audible alarm on the Countdown Clock. Go to File > Settings > Beeps which will sound an alarm when there are 20 seconds to go, and then again when the race is due to start.
